Bestfly becomes only FBO to provide aviation fuel in Sub-Saharan Africa
Bestfly, the Angola-based aviation services company has announced toady at EBACE 2015, where it is exhibiting on the African Pavilion booth A065, that it has signed an agreement with Angola’s energy company Sonangol to operate its own dedicated fuel bowser.
The agreement enables Bestfly to control fuel supply to aircraft from its own 45 000 litre bowser provided by Sonangol of Angola. The truck is parked at the FBO, branded in Bestfly colours and is operated by Bestfly team members, making Bestfly the only FBO with a dedicated aviation fuel supply in the Sub-Saharan area of Africa.
Under the terms of the agreement Sonangol will provide continued access to the bowser and aviation fuel. In addition Sonangol has trained the three-man team operating the bowser in safe operations, human factors and all elements of secure fuel handling which enables the company to offer 24/7 fuel services to arriving and departing aircraft. To streamline the system even further Sonangol has a single point of contact in the accounts department handling accounting, fuel requests and pre-flight inquiries making the fuel administration process leaner for all concerned
Bestfly has been Sonangol’s largest dedicated private aviation fuel customer since the FBO opened five years ago, and the agreement is an extension of this long-standing relationship. “We have a lot of trust between the companies and this has helped us reach this agreement,” says Nuno Pereira, Managing Director of Bestfly. “ We have seen a dramatic rise in demand over the last couple of years, and Sonangol has acknowledged the increased volume of our uptake. We are delighted they have agreed to work with us to enable a more efficient service to our customers, “ adds Pereira. The placement of the bowser at the Bestfly FBO supports an even better turn round time.
Executive aircraft movements in and out of Luanda International Airport continue to grow as the mineral and energy markets grow; and the diversification of the Angolan economy continues. The new deal will support this growth. The bowser began operations in April 2015, and has already fuelled aircraft up to Airbus Corporate Jet ACJ320 in size. For larger aircraft Sonangol will provide a second bowser as needed. “Our customers have an improved experience as a result of the deal and we are delighted to be one of the few FBOs in Africa that can supply aviation fuel direct to the aircraft, its still unusual on the continent for an FBO to control their fuel supply but we hope this is the start of a trend” adds Pereira.

EAN creates new-look VIP Lounge at Lagos FBO
EAN Aviation, the Lagos-based integrated business aviation services company, returns to EBACE (African Pavilion, Booth A065) with the news that it is completely refurbishing its FBO VIP Lounge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport following a period of increased customer demand. Astra Aviation operations move to 24/7 as it marks ten years of operations
Ahead of this year’s EBACE 2015 Astra Aviation, the UK – based African flight services provider, has ramped up its operations with a move to 24/7 office hours beginning on 1st of June. The decision to put a permanent night shift in place at its Johannesburg office aims to provide customers with improved support and immediate responses to inquiries and requests. The new full-time, year round office demonstrates Astra Aviation’s commitment to support this growing part of its business.
Astra Aviation will also be marking ten years of operations in Africa when it makes its debut EBACE presence on the AfBAA pavilion booth A065. To celebrate the occasion Astra Aviation is offering any visiting delegate who signs up at EBACE a 10% discount on all Astra provided services for the 10 weeks following the European show.

|08MAY15: Dublin International Airport/EIDW, operated by the Dublin Airport Authority, has informed FBOs based on the airport that their Platinum Services & VIP Lounge facilities will cease to operate from June 1st. No new bookings are being accepted. The decision appears to have been taken as a result of difficulties the DAA are having in getting staff to accept new arrangements. The two FBOs located at EIDW, Signature Flight Support & Universal Aviation will both be affected as many of their clients availe of the facility for outbound security screening. This will now have to take place at Gate Post 32 airport staff & 3rd party service providers access point.|
|NATA submitted a letter May 7th to the East Hampton Town Supervisor Board urging it to reconsider and repeal its recentl approved restrictions on the use of the airport. The letter is in response to the Council’s scheduelled hearing that will consider additional changes to the recently approved restrictions including the adoption of penalties.
In March, NATA & other major GA associations submitted comments to the Board in opposition to the town’s proposal to restrict operations at East Hampton Airport (KHTO), New York, and its related airport infrastructure plan.
In the letter, NATA Senior VP for Government Affairs, Bill Deere, emphasized that the imposition and structure of the restrictions will have a detrimental impact on aviation businesses operating at the airport, including the loss of good paying jobs & result in expensive litigation, “While NATA understands the concerns that have led to the development of these restrictions & the GA community shares the town’s desire to maintain a clean and quiet community of beaches & surrounding protected lands, the restrictions are nothing less than local job killers that are a serious violation of the federal regulations related to airport grant assurances.”
